About Thousand Palms

Originally Thousand Palms real estate was located in a town that was founded as a railroad depot. The name at that time was Edom. Located 110 miles south of Los Angeles, the community was linked to Palm Springs by a dirt and gravel road in 1942. This is known as Ramon Road today. The area began to grow in 1945 with many travelers on Highway 99 stopping here for the service stations, restaurants, motels and produce shops that were constructed. Thousand Palms homes for sale were purchased as the area businesses grew.

The businesses declined somewhat in 1957, when Interstate 10 was built, by-passing the businesses in Thousand Palms. The community finally acquired an overpass in 1962. With the construction of a United Parcel Service station in 1957, an ore reduction plant, a bus garage and a concrete plant in 1963, the area began to grow again. By the end of the 1960s, Thousand Palms was a small industrial community. 

Over the years, the economy affected the area and many people left to seek work in other areas. Today, the community is rebounding and Thousands Palms real estate is being sought by those who are looking for a unique way of life. There are many million dollar estates and residents enjoy the equestrian lifestyle. A community center was constructed featuring a park and many are taking advantage of living in a small community surrounded by big-city amenities.

Thousand Palms real estate is located near many golf courses including the Ivey Ranch Country Club & Golf Course, a 55+ community; the Classic Club Golf Course; Sun City Palm Desert Golf Course and Desert Dunes Golf Course. Attractions also include the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa and the Living Desert: Wildlife & Botanical Park. Movies are enjoyed at the Regal Cinemas Rancho Stadium 16. In addition, there are many opportunities for hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking and camping.
